Biography
Prof. Towhidul Alam has been in surgical practice including Endo-Laparoscopic Surgery in Dhaka for the last thirty years and had the unique opportunity to pioneer Endo-Laparoscopic Surgery including Interventional Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) in Bangladesh.
He has performed more than 15000 Laparoscopic surgeries, 8000 therapeutic ERCP, 1100 GI therapeutic endoscopy & 500 EUS — one of the largest individual experiences of Endoscopic surgery in Bangladesh.

- 1993 — Laparoscopic & Basic Endoscopy training in Dhaka.
- 1999 — Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at SRMC, Chennai under Prof. B. Krishna Rau.
- 1999 — Advanced GI Laparoscopic training under Dr. C. Palanivelu.
- 2004 — Advanced Laparoscopic training at Singapore National Hospital.
- 2006 — Certificate in Clinical Ultrasonography, BSU.
- 2008 — Advanced Lap Surgery at Ethicon Institute, Delhi.
- 2013 — Fellowship in EUS under Dr. Vipulroy Rathod, Mumbai.
- 2014 — EUS Training under Dr. Malay Sharma, India.
- 2016 — Therapeutic Endoscopy & EUS under Dr. Amit Madoy, Mumbai.
- 2017 — Fellowship (NOTES, POEM, ESD & EMR) at Zhengzhou University, China.
Achievements
He pioneered therapeutic endoscopy (ERCP) among surgeons in Bangladesh. He is also the pioneer of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and introduced Third Space Surgery & Hybrid Endo-Laparoscopic Surgery for the first time in the country.
He has directly trained 326 Surgeons in Basic GI Endoscopy and helped train 700+ Surgeons in Basic Laparoscopic Surgery through SELSB & UCELS (BSMMU).

Governor ELSA, Member of SAGES & APHS, and member of SOSB, SELSB, BGS. Past President of SOSB & SELSB. He has 40 publications and presented 120 research papers nationally & internationally.
